If raw sewage is on your floor right now, or floodwater came in through the crawl space after the last round of storms moved across Wake County, you're dealing with what the IICRC calls Category 3 water. Blackwater. It's grossly contaminated, the smell is unmistakable, and every hour it sits the contamination works further into drywall, subfloor, and the joists underneath. We're based in Raleigh. Our trucks are minutes away from most of Wake County. Call 877-371-7873 and we'll move.

When you need Category 3 blackwater cleanup

Blackwater is anything carrying sewage, toilet water from past the trap, or floodwater that has crossed the ground outside. In Raleigh it usually arrives in one of a few ways. Main line backups pushing waste up through a basement floor drain or a downstairs shower. Toilet overflows that have soaked through to the room below. Stormwater intrusion after a heavy cell parks itself over the Crabtree Creek catchment for an hour and refuses to move. Older homes inside the beltline are particularly prone, places like Five Points and Mordecai, because the original cast iron drain stacks are now sixty or seventy years old and failing at the joints. Newer slab homes out toward Brier Creek aren't immune either. The red clay subsoil sheds water poorly, so when it really comes down the water has nowhere to go but inside. Don't sit on it. Bacterial growth doubles inside a day, and Raleigh's summer humidity, usually north of 70%, only speeds it up.

Our blackwater cleanup process

When you call, we send a technician trained to IICRC S500 standards, in full PPE, with truck-mounted extraction. First job is containment. We seal the affected area off from the rest of the house so spores and aerosolised waste don't spread through your HVAC return. Then we extract every drop of standing water and pull out anything porous that has wicked contamination, which usually means carpet, pad, baseboards, and any drywall up to the visible water line. Every surface that touched the water gets an EPA-registered antimicrobial. After that, commercial dehumidifiers and air movers go in to bring the moisture content of the wood and subfloor back down to a safe reading. We check with meters daily, not by eye. Most residential jobs are dry and ready for reconstruction inside three to five days. Faster if it's contained to one room.

Blackwater cleanup cost in Raleigh

Pricing depends on a few things we can't honestly guess at over the phone. Square footage affected. How long the water has been sitting. How far it travelled (a contained downstairs bathroom is one job, a saturated crawl space under a 1940s bungalow off Glenwood is something else entirely). What materials need pulling out. You get a written, upfront quote before any work starts, with no padded line items and nothing tacked on at the end. If your homeowners policy covers the loss, and most do for sudden discharges and a lot of storm events, we can bill the carrier directly and walk you through the documentation so you aren't chasing paperwork while your house is in pieces.

Why choose Pure Air North Carolina

We're a Raleigh based team. Not a national franchise routing your call through a call centre in another state. Our trucks are local, our technicians are IICRC certified, and we run same-day response across Wake County and most of the Triangle. Every job carries our satisfaction guarantee, which means if a moisture reading is off when we leave, we come back. We've handled crawl space backups in Oakwood, slab overflows in Cary, and stormwater jobs after every named system that's tracked through central North Carolina in the last few years. You're talking to people who know the houses around here.
